AstroAvenger pits your space fighter against vertically scrolling waves of enemy fighters backed up by missile cruisers and mammoth capital ships. The captivating graphics set the carefully shaded spacecraft against a gorgeous backdrop of purple nebulae and spinning moons. Eerie music evokes the vastness of space. Destroyed enemies drop power-ups, and between rounds you can trade captured booty to upgrade your ship. The mix of opponents and weaponry is so well-handled, you hardly notice each round is basically structured the same as the last. Experienced gamers will finish the demo's one level in less than the provided hour, but three grades of difficulty encourage replaying. Fans of shooting games should take AstroAvenger for a test flight.
